The body and mind are meant to coordinately work towards in developing mental strength and making one a powerful person in every respect.

1. Become an Early Riser

It is recommended that waking up early in the morning is the best way to prepare the mind for the long-term mind control process. If not possible to get up too early, consider waking up not late than 6 A.M. consistently according to your convenience.

The yoga texts and spiritual Gurus emphasize the importance of waking up early in the morning. The studies published in the journals have shown the benefits of the early riser and its influence on the mind. The world’s most influential people are the early riser.

There’s a quote that highlights its importance “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.”

Have proper sleep and get up early continuously for a month. You can feel the difference in the attributes of mind. The negative thoughts and emotions become less. Those who are in shift work they would have better luck later.

The mind becomes more subjected to the odd thoughts in the evening. It also becomes less rational when comparing to the morning hours.

You can clearly notice this characteristic in the thought process at night. For instance, a teenager would be planning at night ‘how to propose a girl tomorrow?’ Later, when he wake up in the morning he would feel that some of his thoughts and planning are irrational. Similarly, this is same for other cases where you would have a greater clarity in your thoughts in the early hours of the morning. You can also notice the change in the ability of the mind to organize the thoughts.

If you are a late sleeper and a late riser then you are more prone to negative emotions and negative thoughts. Mind control is a hard task for such people.

The yoga philosophy says about the 3 qualities of nature viz., sattva, rajas, and tamas. The more sattva attributes you have, the more you have control over the mind. This component is the basis for the greater mental strength.

In living creatures’ man possess the highest level of sattva component. The yogis have it on a higher level than the ordinary people so they are more evolved. The sattva component is predominant in the early risers.

2. Stopping Habits that are Against Mind Control

Breaking a habit is not an easy task, but possible. If you are having the habits that are against controlling the mind then it will lag you behind in it.

The mind is attached to the bodily activities. This characteristic becomes evident from the drug addicts.

How to control the mind to break a bad habit? There are some people who are looking for the ways to reduce their weight. There have realized the power of the mind that triggers them to have their favorite dishes more that the recommended quantity. They try to convince the mind but most probably ended up eating it. This is the true nature of mind.

Here, we have to take steps by understanding the laws of mind. Sometimes the positive affirmations don’t yield the required result. The best way is to avoid such circumstances. If you are having the habit of eating more pizzas that work against your weight loss, then this can be done by cleverly preventing you from getting into such circumstances as much as possible. When you develop such habit it will become easy for you to control the mind.

If you are not having persistent drinking habit or not a chain smoker, don’t become overconfident that you have a better control on it by having such items with you. The mind will certainly deceive you. Only a slight favorable condition is required to put you down. It’s same for all other cases. This is where one fails to understand the laws of mind.

3. The Quality and Quantity of Food We Eat

The food we eat can readily influence our mind. Not only the quality but the quantity also affects us. You can notice the difference in mental state instantly when you intake more caffeine content foodstuffs or the food items that induces the pleasures in mind. Nowadays, the quantity of intake is the main issue for some people.

The yoga text says that if a person is in the primal state of controlling the mind then he has to uphold certain principles in his life as much as he can. If you are not serious about such habits then don’t think about controlling the mind. 4. Uphold Few Basic Moral Qualities

Our thoughts influence our deeds and these deeds, in turn, affect our emotions. The yoga texts say about a few qualities of life that boost our mental strength. Try to cultivate such possible character traits. It will certainly have a positive effect on you.

An excerpt from Swami Vivekananda’s work gives a better insight “Raja yoga is divided into eight steps.

  1. Yama — non-killing, truthfulness, non-stealing, continence, and non-receiving of any gifts.
  2. Niyama — cleanliness, contentment, austerity, study, and self-surrender to God.
  3. Asana, or posture – removing blockages and revitalizing body.
  4. Pranayama – control of Parana.
  5. Pratyahara – or restraint of the senses from their objects.
  6. Dharana – fixing the mind on a spot.
  7. Dhyana – meditation, and
  8. Samâdhi – superconsciousness.

The Yama and Niyama, as we see, are moral pieces of training; without these, as the basis, no practice of Yoga will succeed. As these two become established, the Yogi will begin to realize the fruits of his practice; without these, it will never bear fruit. A Yogi must not think of injuring anyone, by thought, word, or deed. Mercy shall not be for men alone, but shall go beyond, and embrace the whole world.”

5. Control the Emotional Outburst

Keep away from the possibilities of emotional outburst. If you do not control your anger, anxiety and other negative emotions, your mind and body become accustomed to it. These consistent character traits make your body to easily stimulate the chemicals to get into such mental state. Such state hinders the mind control.

6. Try Not to Become Obsessed with Anything

If you do not possess the healthy habits you have to pay for it.

The research showed that those who often check their emails and social network news feeds on expecting something, they often end up with being stressed. How often you check, the more stress you are building within.

The obsessions even in any minor cases can develop as a habit that supports the mind to have less control. The obsession doesn’t like the mind to remain in the calm state.

Moderation is a significant quality that we have to stick to. This is the heart of the mind control. The experienced yogis say that in order to become successful in controlling the mind you have to maintain moderation in the life matters i.e., in food, sex, desire, work and sleep.
