How to Get Better Results in Meditation According to Bhagavad Gita?
Controlling the mind is the hardest job in the world. What some people who are not getting the expected results in meditation is that they are unaware of some of the rules of mind control.
Bhagavad Gita is one of the prominent texts of yoga and its philosophies. The well-known yogis had already ensured its authenticity, then why to hesitate to accept it wholly.
Certainly, it’s not a mere philosophy, yet the literal techniques similarly as like the tantra which yields the required result when done accordingly.
Yoga is the way of life. It is compatible with all of your lifestyles and later it slowly changes your rhythm of life, ‘the right way to lead a peaceful life.’
Why is yoga so popular? Everyone, in the job, business, or in any professions at some instance seek for the peace of mind. Primarily, they look for material possession, fame, status, etc. But they are not perpetual. It’s only the karma.
The attachment towards karma creates the burden. This is where you lose the peace of mind. And, the yoga teaches you the right way to live.
Here are few disciplines for mediation from ]]>Bhagavad Gita]]> and not following it fails to get the expected results.
1. No One Can Help You; You Create Your Own Destiny
Unless you take the right decisions in life, your life will be filled with miseries. It is the source of all your problems. If you fail to take actions, time drifts you with it. Anyhow, you do not have freedom other than doing the actions. Everything determined, just play your role properly.
As Shakespeare said, “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances.”
Everyone at some instance in life expects the peace of mind. Many are wandering around with non-perpetual things and seeking out for the missing links in life.
Yoga is very popular because it helped many to relieve from the stressful lifestyle. Yet, there are some people who involve in a deeper level. They feel like there is something worthy within it, or consider it has solutions to all of their life problems.
Involving in yoga and neglecting your other life needs brings only problems. Yoga is the art of living; here you realize how to lead your life.
When the German poet Goethe was dying, somebody said, “In your whole life you must have enjoyed many beautiful moments”. He was a man of great caliber, one of the greatest geniuses of the world, and multidimensional.
But the question made him very sad. He said if he counts, then it can’t come to more than 2 weeks in my whole life.
But those are the only 2 weeks. “I have really lived – a few moments far and few between; those were the real moments.”
“I have lived only two weeks, the rest has been just wastage.”
If Goethe said that, what about an ordinary man? Not even two weeks.
Laying a foundation for the peaceful mind is one’s own responsibility. As Vivekananda said, “You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”
You have to prepare yourself mentally and physically with true dedication.
2. Know the Right Posture
There are different types of meditation that don't stick to any particular posture of the body.
Bhagavad Gita emphasizes on the particular posture commonly to all. Padmasana, Siddhasana or sukasana are the best for the beginners as well as for the experienced people. Through this posture, a perfect stillness of the body can be achieved in a short time. When the body and senses settle down, mind easily subdues.
One should maintain a straight back and head in the same line. The eyes fixed as if gazing at the tip of the nose.
At the initial state of mind control, some people feel discomfort to make the body still and to direct the mind to concentrate. Concentration is just a creation of tension.
And however, they do not get the immediate results. It is the main reason some people quit meditation.
Meditation is a long term goal. It takes lots of patient practice to reach the intense level. It’s indeed you are training the mind and body to acquire the deep brainwave state. (Read also How to Practice Kundalini Meditation?)
There are also specific esoteric techniques to tranquilize the mind according to the person’s nature.
3. Choose Right Place for Meditation
Why is it highly recommended to choose a right place for meditation? A place with good ventilation and less distraction keep away the mind from feeling discomfort. Choose a place, not too high or low from the surrounding.
Use a mat because you are building up a static potential energy similar to that generated during the sleep. It should be shielded for the effective meditation.
4. Balance Your Prana
If your mind is under control, breath automatically gets controlled; alternatively, if you control your breath, you control your mind. Perfectly balancing your prana – a life force in breath, mysterious things can happen in your life. (Read also How to Safely Awaken Kundalini Energy?)
5. Know Your Current State of Emotions and Thoughts
It’s the natural quality of mind to linger around with the thoughts of past and future. It happens when we conceive ourselves as the mind and thoughts.
Become an observer of mind and thoughts. Observe your thoughts without involving in it.
For a beginner, the mind will be filled with the consecutive thoughts. So, it’s better to withdraw the mind from such endless thoughts and fix it on the object of meditation such as like the third eye.
Or else, you will be unconsciously developing the notion that you are the thoughts. And, such withdrawal of mind helps to become aware that you are getting lost.
Initially, it might not be easy as you think. It would be embarrassing to few people like the brain teasers and would feel to get out from such state. Remember, Mind control is a long term goal. Without it, you cannot go any further.
Once, you taste the nectar of the pleasurable moments, you feels like to want more; remain in that state for a long time. It’s addictive. It’s a peaceful mental state neither good nor bad that cannot be experienced in temporary life moments.
6. Maintain Moderation
Maintaining a moderation in life seems silly, but hard to practice. People often stick to either of the extreme ends. It is easy to abandon few things in life and include others in the extreme level but not in moderate level.
Mostly, moderation has to be followed in few things that are food, sex, work, and sleep. Or else the harmony of the body and mind will be lost.
7. Renounce the Fruits of Action and Ego
Your sorrows are due to the unconditional attachments to the worldly needs. Non-attachment brings contentment in life. Stick to your duties and responsibilities.
The ego vanishes when you renounce the thought that you own your actions.
Events don’t happen according to the greedy needs. Live in the present. The past already had happened. The future has its own plan. If you plan something for the future, it’s only a possibility that it could happen as per your wish. It is just a probability of random chances.
8. Be a Sattvic (Noble Qualities)
Keep up some of the virtues in life. Your actions influence your mind. Have you noticed the unconscious influence of great feelings for an extended time when you helped someone in need or a helpless animal?
The tranquility of mind resides in the pleasant feelings and the distractive mind on the other. If you keep up few of noble qualities such as non-violence, kindness, etc. it is easy to control your mind.
Not only your actions the type of food you intake actually controls you. And, it will greatly influence the beginners.
For the mind control, meditation is only a part of it. You have to include other factors too to succeed in yoga. It is the well-established theory of mind control where everything counts.
