Difference between Kundalini Yoga and Kundalini Meditation

The kundalini yoga and meditation and their features are well depicted in some of the Indian ancient scriptures and literature. The modern authors tried to explain this phenomenon by their own experiences or by implementing or interpreting the phenomena from the ancient texts according to their own point of view. These spiritual practices are referred to the tantric and Shaivite system in the psychospiritual realm.

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation

The terms yoga and meditation are not very much distinctive term but are interrelated. In the modern world, this form of art can be regarded as the physical exercises, concentration and mind control techniques which are being intuitively developed and practiced. When it is seen from a higher realm it has also another term correlated with it is known as 'self-realization'. This special form of exercises only forms a physical relation with the body and only meant for the purification purpose which is mandatory for the activation of this mystical power.

These yogic philosophies are written abstrusely in such a manner that it should not be deciphered by the ordinary people.  These esoteric practices have been kept secret for ages and only been revealed to the notable aspirants who are been capable of bringing the fruition of the deeds.

Among the four forms of yoga, kundalini yoga which is also known as the Laya yoga, Siddha yoga, and Sahaja yoga is one of the widely practiced forms of spiritual practices. This practice comprises of asana, pranayama, mantras, kriyas, mudras, and meditation. There are different meditation practices under kundalini yoga such as mantra meditation which is based on the mantra ‘Om Namo Guru Dev Namo’.

Apart from the Hatha yoga’s pranayama practices, the breathing exercises are more concentrated in the alternate nostril breathings. This is a systemized form of spiritual practice aimed at awakening the kundalini energy in man.

The primary focus of yoga asana is to cleanse the impurities in the physical and the mental level. The asanas are systemized to empower the nervous system, glandular system, and making them energetic where the flows of the life force prana are not interrupted. This practice vitalizes the whole body to support the awakening of kundalini.

Kundalini Awakening

The term kundalini refers to the serpent power which becomes dormant at the time of birth. This evolutionary power is three and a half-coiled and it is situated at the base of the spine. Awakening this dormant energy invokes different levels of consciousness. It is said that as the serpent power raises through different chakras results in various mystical experiences.

This kundalini is the apparently possible means to connect with the physical world and the mental plane. Hence meditating with this evolutionary energy is beyond of all other meditation practices and responsible for salvation.

Kundalini Meditation

This spiritual practice is the final form of kundalini yoga having a systemized mediation practices. The preliminary focus of kundalini meditation is on the concentration of the mind. The aspirant is guided to awaken the kundalini by balancing the Ida and Pingala Nadis that are being spiraled around the Sushumna Nadi.  This spiritual meditation focuses on the complete stillness of mind and this stillness itself is the state of higher consciousness. Acquiring this stillness of the mind is the long age process where the gradual progress of the spiritual practices takes its own time to flourish. According to various schools of philosophy, when the kundalini energy reaches the seventh center Sahasrara chakra these two forms of energies ‘Shakti – feminine energy’ resides at the base of the spine unites with the ‘Siva – masculine energy’ in the crown of the head Sahasrara chakra resulting in the spiritual bliss.

The disciplined practice leads the individual consciousness to get united with the universal consciousness as the ultimate aim of the yoga where it is readily expressed in kundalini meditation.
